Why I decided to create Moonlight Mode
That’s a good question. Many moons ago I attempted to create a website or blog to showcase my thoughts, or whatever caught my interest. Sadly, I wasn’t consistent with updating since writing creatively for fun wasn’t high on the list. I would create a few posts, then completely fall off from writing any more posts. I’m pretty certain those old websites still exist somewhere in the corners of the internet.
Now that I’ve entered a new chapter in my life, writing has taken my interest as a top priority. I want to write down my ideas and stories, rather than have them stuck in my brain. My boyfriend sometimes calls me a space naut because I have my head in outer space.
Why Substack?
Why did I choose this place instead of the typical social media platform? There are way too many ads on the platforms, that ruin the reading or viewing experience. I understand why they have ads, but there’s a difference between having a few and overloading the site with a ton.
It’s like overfilling a Boston cream donut to the point where it explodes. It’s just a hot sugary mess. If I want to read a good article or blog without distracting ads, places like Substack, Medium, etc., will give you a much more enjoyable experience.
As a writer, I’m not at the mercy of the algorithm that social media heavily relies on. In the last few years, I’ve noticed that my posts barely have visibility because it doesn’t please the algorithm gods. Have too many hashtags on your post? You’re banned to the shadow realm!
What to expect from this newsletter
This newsletter will be about a multitude of things, including beauty products, lifestyle, and maybe even the odd media stuff here. What do I mean by media you might ask? I might discuss TV series or gaming at length. I get the feeling those will be the longer posts.
For the frequency of posts, I aim to post at least once a week or twice a month, depending on the topic and length. Some posts will be free to anyone who wants to tune in. I may have plans to add serialized fiction here with the first few chapters available for free. The rest will be added over time and available to paying subscribers.
I’m still simmering on that decision to add my book here. I’m querying my novel and seeing if any agent I’ve queried will take a chance on my book for the next few months.
I’ll have more fun, interesting content in the coming weeks if you want to tune in to see what’s up. Feel free to subscribe and leave a comment!
